The whole thing was stuffed with fabric so it would be pretty resilient to rougher play as it was meant to be an active use toy and not to just sit on a shelf. He also had freckles, a button nose and a corn cob pipe. My Buddy also had blue shoes with white stripes (not the band) and they would vary between blue and brown eyes on him. He was dressed in a long sleeve shirt that had multi colored stripes of red, yellow, blue, and white.Īnother distinguishing feature were his trademark red overalls that had the “My Buddy” logo right on the front, in case you forgot what you were playing with… He had a few distinguishing features including a red hat and brown hair. My Buddy was a fairly large 21 inch doll that had the look of being around the age of a toddler. This article is all about My Buddy and if it is, or isn’t the inspiration behind Chucky from Child’s Play. It was a memorable toy form the ‘80s with a pretty memorable commercial and song to go with it. It was a doll and it’s intent was to teach boys about being caring for their friends. My Buddy was a straight up attempt at marketing a doll towards boys but there was nothing that was being over enhanced like giving him scars or a punching action. My Pet Monster was the attempt to crack back into that market by taking a stuffed animal and trying to “toughen” it by giving it fangs and handcuffs. Every kid has a stuffed animal at some point but boys tend to outgrow them. I wrote an article about My Pet Monster and how it was seen as a plush doll marketed towards boys. My Buddy was a success and wa considered as the inspiration behind Chucky from the Child’s Play movies. This was controversial as marketing a doll specifically to boys was seen as a big risk. My Buddy was a doll line made by Hasbro in 1985. And after trying to find an actor who would capture that crazy "Jack Nicholson" attitudez they begged Brad Dourif to redub the lines. If you grew up in the ‘80s you know it was a time when manufacturers of dolls were trying to crossover and have them appeal to boys and vice versa. But it was changed because not only did the test audience laugh at the screen for being unintentionally funny but Don Mancini felt it would've made Chucky sound gay. Also, Brad Dourif was only meant to play Charles Lee Ray in the opening scene and the late actress Jessica Walter would've voiced the Good Guy/Chucky voice. And ending with his remains sent to the evidence room with his severed arm silencing a fly. One ending was set on the rooftop, another had Mike knocking the burnt Chucky's head off, another had Andy using a remote control car with a knife tapped on and stabbing Chucky. But this draft/original cut of the film was over 2 hours long, so a lot of scenes had to be trimmed to 88 minutes long. Detective Mike Norris was included to add more characters throughout the story and give him a connection to Charles Lee Ray. But Holland wanted to include a voodoo backstory for Charles so he could cast a spell to transfer his soul into the doll and his motivation to possess Andy. Originally, Charles was a prisoner who died from the death row, only to haunt a nearby toy store and possess a Good Guy doll. As by this point had concept art with him dressed in a long sleeve shirt, patched jeans, and a parted pixie haircut.)Įventually, Tom Holland came back as the director and took out many ideas from Lafia's rewrite. But while definitely an improvement, this version still just wasn't working. And not only gave Chucky his iconic Good Guy catchphrases, but was also responsible for Andy's badass line "This is the end, friend" at the ending.Īndy was at one point gonna be renamed MARTIN before it was averted back, and was rewritten to be more of an innocent kid who's a victim of circumstances instead of making him an unlikeable kid with sickening violent thoughts. And added "Lee Ray" for Charlie's full name. Lafia was responsible for giving the doll's name, CHUCKY, to co-aside with Charles as a nickname. It had a lot more backstory for Andy and his Mother: such as what happened to the father, why they were struggling, etc. And it was this much needed change in direction and elevated the character and story. John Lafia was hired for further rewrites. Buddy was renamed to CHARLES, Susan was renamed to Karen but was still a CEO of the toy company and the mastermind of the Good Guy doll toyline. The next version had rewrites from director Tom Holland.

Terribly appropriate for Beauty + the Bestiary THATLou. Bestiary has been touched on here and there in past blog posts with Darius the Great’s wonderful Frieze of Griffins, and those gentle protecting Lamassus). – as the previous Gorgon post discussed, the very word the Greeks gave these ghoulish creatures means Horrible or Terrible. There are two THATLous that this Dinos would be perfect for Meet the Cross-Purpose Greek Pot, a world-famous Dinos by the Gorgon Painter… Ok, enough horsing around here, we’re going to cut strait to the chase and give you a sample, a teaser, a piece of the hunt! Which THATLou, you ask? Well, the below morsel is particularly great because it could fit into any number of near-future hunts. The Louvre Greek and Roman Antiquities, from When things are in bold, usually that’s a hint that they refer to bonus questions… That is NOT TO SAY you don’t want to find these easy-to-find Icons, because you’ll be well rewarded with bonus questions, as you see above. When it’s such a “greatest hit” (my joke term for these Louvre icons) those treasures are only worth 10 game points, as there’s no challenge to finding them. * The Louvre map has photos of six highlights per floor on their map. Every time I go up the Daru Staircase I think of the photo of Nike being evacuated from the Louvre’s Daru Staircase in 1939, as seen in the Nike blog post. If you’re sharp you’ll have earned another thirty points by telling us where Venus de Milo hid during WWII, as discussed in Just Do It … And another fifteen points each for 2 other treasures that hid with her - Not shabby on the bonus question front, eh?Īs for the WWII Bonus answer: all of the following treasure was kept in hiding at the Château de Valençay: the lovely Venus, Michelangelo’s Dying Slaves, the Mona Lisa and Nike of Samothrace. Whoever this mystery lady is, she’s gorgeous and her ‘top-ten attraction’ at the Louvre status is entirely understandable. Venus’s fixture holes photo taken from from Where is Ariadne? Blog It’s not the cling wrap material of Nike of Samothrace. But there’s plenty that places her in the Hellenistic period (between 3rd – 1st C BC), such as the spiral composition of her body, the fact that she’s 3D, her small breasts, elongated body and most importantly the thin veneer of material draped from her hips and not quite covering the top of her butt crack. Likewise, her hairstyle and the delicate modelling of the flesh evoke the works of the 4th C sculptor Praxiteles. Traits which were typical of the 5th C BC, such as the harmony of her face, her aloofness and impassivity, lead some Art Historians to believe she was a 100 BC replica. She originally wore jewellery (bracelet, earrings and a headband) of which only the fixation holes remain. Amphitrite was worshipped on the Island of Melos (Milo), where this Louvre icon was found. Because of her sensuality and semi-nudity, she’s often considered to be Venus (goddess of love), however, she could have very well been Amphitrite (Poseidon / Neptune’s wife originally, but sadly this goddess of the sea diminished in importance at different junctures of Olympian history). The identity of the “Venus de Milo” is unknown, as her arms were never found, nor were any attributes. You can’t tell me you’re surprised we’re opening up the Love Hunt with the Goddess of Love, can you? A hands-down top ten Louvre Icon, just look on your map for her snap… Island of Melos (Cyclades, Greece), 100 BC Statue During this time, the structural pores are filled with rich components, resulting in a natural and healthy material. The formation of marble is completed in a long time. It provides a simple and elegant appearance with thin or thick veins that formed naturally. This natural stone, which has not lost its popularity until today, continues to decorate the walls or floors of our living spaces such as kitchens, bathrooms, pools and gardens. In Roman civilization, we witness the transformation of marble into a work of art in ancient Greek cities. It has been used in sculpture, architecture and decoration since ancient times. Marble is frequently encountered in historical, ancient temples, marble statues, palaces, Egyptian pharaoh tombs, pyramids, city walls, castles, stadiums and open-air theatres. Although the types of marbles used in these works are very diverse, it is noteworthy that their sizes are very large. It is found in many artifacts built in the pre-BC period. Marble is one of the natural stones that has been processed and used by people for thousands of years throughout history. Laminal marble, which is another type, has the appearance of colored stripes and its fine-grained strips contain different minerals or elements. For example, solid marble has a compact appearance, fine and coarse grained. For this reason, they are classified in different ways. Marbles have different mineralogical, chemical and structural properties depending on the conditions during formation. In fact, the word marble is etymologically derived from the Ancient Greek word "marmaros", meaning shining stone. In addition to its naturalness, it has a perfect shine after being processed and polished by skilled hands. Thanks to this crystallization, a riot of colors and veining occurs in the marble. These minerals crystallize under different temperatures and pressures. The ESWAP X PRO CONTROLLER features next-generation (NXG) analog mini-sticks, for enhanced precision and a longer lifespan compared with previous Thrustmaster mini-sticks. When you apply the manual brake and the aircraft does a full stop, there’s no more momentum and the engine isn’t powerful enough to start rolling. The engines don’t have enough power to move the aircraft from full stop, but once the aircraft gains momentum, the engine will have enough thrust to keep accelerating slowly. Why is that only possible with the parking brake? I do not understand that. If I then set the parking brake (on the Throttle Quadrant Addon) and release it again, the plane slowly rolls off (also in IDLE). But I was able to observe a strange phenomenon: If I roll on the taxiway and stop with the pedals, the Airbus stops (thrust in IDLE) - even if I then let go of the pedals. |
